Soritical Mask

       

This video is of the first sculpture in the "Sorites Series". The title "Sorites" refers to the Sorites Paradox mentioned in a lecture by Christopher di Carlo called The New Ethics , which I was listening to while working on this series.

Constellation

 

This short video features "Constellation" another sculpture in the Sorites Series. The sculpture is fabricated with hundreds of one inch machine screws welded together with silicon bronze. The sculpture stands about 90 cm. high.

Sorites Fetish 2011

 

"Sorites Fetish" is approximately 90 cm. high, composed of more than 800 steel machine screws welded together with bronze. The last image in the video is of the back of the sculpture which is actually concave but appears in the round because of the way the mind interprets what it sees.

Soritical Maze

 

This is one of the sculptures in a series of sculptures I call "Sorites". The sculpture is approximately  90 cm. high  and contructed with steel machine screws and welded together with bronze.

I have recently been taken on by the Oeno Gallery near Picton On and the Weiss Gallery in Calgary. The Weiss Gallery is having an introductory mini show of my sculpture and photography from March 12 to April 9.

MONTREAL SHOW 2009

My 3rd show at Galerie d"Avignon ran from September 9^th to the 30^thand featured sculptures from my Letterhead Series and Green Man Series plus the beginning of a new series called Leadhead. To view the new sculptures visit the photo album d'Avignon Show 2009 on the right of my blog.

5th Annual Birdhouse Auction

"Nest Flight" is my latest donation to the Mill of Kintail Birdhouse Auction to be held Saturday 18, 2009 at the Almonte Civitan Community Hall. Doors open at 7:00p.m. Tickets $15.
This sculpture features a polished bronze egg nestled in a cast bird's nest, resting in a boat constructed of 2 bronze maple leaves with a starling skull figurehead.

Greenman

One of the projects I was involved in this summer was the creation of the Almonte General Hospital and Fairview Manor donor recognition system in partnership with Stephen Brathwaite. My part was the installation of my sculpture "Greenman" in the "Circle of Life Garden" designed by Kevin Cooney in front of the Almonte General Hospital. The photo album on the right describes the commission in greater detail.

LETTERHEAD

I've continued working with the letters theme and will call the series "Letterhead". Below is a detail of "Letterhead Series" #08400. It's 17" high, bronze and 1/1.

4th Annual Birdhouse Auction

Spring is here and just in time for the fourth annual Birdhouse Auction. An evening of fun and entertainment is planned for Saturday, April 26th, 2008 at the Almonte Civitan Club, featuring both live and silent auctions of birdhouses and a wide variety of garden ornaments.

The funds raised at the event will be used to assist an Artist in Residence Program for the site. This Program will enable a local artist to utilize our ArtShed studio. In return, they interact with visitors and staff and offer a range of interpretive programming. The program offers the MVC a unique opportunity to explore the linkages between art and nature and is closely related to R. Tait McKenzie’s vision of the Mill of Kintail as a natural retreat.

January 13, 2008

Once again it was time to show the results of our Naked in the House shoot which took place in September. This time we were presented with 2 models to photograph in half an hour using one camera, one lens and one film: for those shooting digital, 36 shots. It was a beautiful warm day. I drew the first  slot at 9:00 am. and set up in a small stable with one window. I liked the strong contrast that presented. I've posted some of the results in the photo album to the right.

The 3rd Annual Mill of Kintail Birdhouse Auction held Saturday, April 14th at the Almonte Civitan Club went very well. My contribution, “Nest Egg” was auctioned off for $850.

NAKED IN THE HOUSE

In mid September of last year, under somewhat dismal light and weather conditions, ten members of the Photography Matters Group were put to the challenge: One-half hour to photograph a nude model using a single camera, one lens, one roll of film (or in the case of a digital camera, 36 frames) at a location unknown to them until the day of the shoot. The exercise tests the ability to photograph creatively under pressure and maintain composure under the circumstances. Not only must the photographer be comfortable with his or her equipment, they must also be able to make quick decisions, be able to shoot in all lighting conditions and give directions to the model effectively to achieve the results they are hoping for.
For this exercise we also had photographers documenting the photographers. I was one of the documentors and you can see some of the results in my photography photo album.

 

artfirm Opening

I've just returned from the opening of my show at artfirm in Calgary. I had a great time at the opening which was packed. Donna and Leslynn were wonderful hosts going out of their way to make the show a success. More shots of the installation are in the artfirm show photo album on the right.

NEW SHOWS

I've had a busy spring and summer preparing for two solo shows, one in Montreal and one in Calgary. The show at Galerie d'Avignon is over now but you can see photos of the work in my photo album on the right. I'm flying off to Calgary tomorrow for the opening of my show at artfirm which will run from October 20 to November 18. The photos of the pieces are in the artfirm photo album on the right.

“Text” has found a new home. Last month, with the help of Bill Ross, I delivered the 29”x29”x20” bronze to the new owners, Mr & Mrs Graham of Toronto.
